Summer camping checklist



Typical Summer Camp Checklist 

CLOTHING AND BEDDING
  • Class A uniform if district, council or special event.
  • Shorts and/or pants (1), shirts (1) and Troop tee shirts.
  • Daily change of underwear and socks
  • Handkerchiefs
  • Bathing Suit
  • Raincoat and/or poncho
  • Hiking Boots
  • Pajamas
  • Sweater and/or light jacket
  • Sneakers
  • Sleeping bag
  • Ground pad
  • Pillow (if desired)
TOILET ARTICLES
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Hand Towel
  • Bath towels (1)
  • Washcloth (1)
  • Comb, brush, mirror
  • Soap in container
MUSTS FOR A HAPPY STAY
  • Folding chair or tripod
  • Knapsack/daypack
  • Knife, fork, spoon
  • Mess kit and Canteen or water bottle
  • Flashlight

  • Pen, pencil, pad

  • Insect repellent (no spray cans)
RAIN PREPARATION
  • Extra large plastic bags.
  • Pack stuff inside duffel in plastic bags (underwear and socks in one, pants in another, shirts in another).

Winter Camping Checklist / Guidelines



Troop19 Norwalk – Winter Camping Checklist

 

Please review this checklist for a weekend camping trip as well as a review of your Scout Handbook.  If you do not have some ofthe items listed below, instead of purchasing them, check with your Patrol Leader, JAS or Scoutmasters as there may not be a need to purchase the item(s).

 

Clothing (keeping dry & layering is the best way to keep warm)

-Snowboots (or insulated/waterproofed hiking boots if you do not have snowboots-both pairs if feasible)

-Socks (no cotton socks) 3 pair of thick wool or equivalent socks & 1thin pair (polypropylene or equivalent)

-Long pants (wool or synthetic are best) 1 pair

-Ski or snow pants 1 pair

-Shirt (no cotton) long sleeved polypropylene or wool are best 1 pair

-Long Underwear (try to avoid cotton) polypropylene or equivalent is best 2 pair

-Fleece/sweatshirt/jacket– polyester or wool is best

-Winter hat that covers your ears (no cotton)

-Winter scarf or face mask (no cotton)

-Winter jacket (with hood if possible)

-Winter gloves/mittens 2 pair

-Raingear

-Dirty clothes bag

 

Equipment

-Backpack or large sports equipment bag to hold your items (items should be in plasticbags)

-DayPack for day hikes to hold: water bottles, rain gear, pocketknife, flashlight,first aid kit, snacks, matches & fire starters in waterproof container,extra clothing, map & compass, plastic cover/bag for day pack’s contents,etc.

-Sleeping bag (0-25 degree bag or double up other bags) in a waterproof bag (a heavy dutytrash bag works great)

-Sleeping pad (at least 1 inch thick-may need to double up foam pads)

-Heavy duty garbage bag (used to cover your backpack or equipment bag if needed)

-1 Filled Water bottle (1 liter bottle preferred)

-Personal  First Aid Kit

-Messkit (consider using a Tupperware bowl with top & spoon)

-Heavy duty plastic mug for hot drinks (troop will not provide cups)

-Watch

-Flashlight or headlamp with spare batteries

-Toiletry kit (tooth brush, tooth paste, hand towel, biodegradable soap, etc.)

-Toilet paper in a plastic bag

-Matches in a waterproof container/bag with your Fireman Card

-Knife with Totin’ Chip card (if you want to use it or axe/saw/hatchet)

-Clothesline

-Sunscreen (non aerosol)

-Compass

-Camera

-Foldingchair

 

Camping Note:  Remember, moisture (from perspiration and outside elements) as well as dehydration are our enemies.  The dryer and more hydrated you are, the better the stay. NO ELECTRONICS.

 

Dry= Warm = Happy Campers!
